The Nemak aluminum diecasting operation in Sheboygan, WI, will be adding 35,300 sq.ft of additional space for diecasting production and product handling, with work to begin this summer for completion by September 2024. The three-phase project has a budget of $18 million, according to local news reports.
Automotive aluminum diecaster Nemak, which acquired the one-time J.L. French diecasting operation in 2012, has not detailed the project nor how many new employees may be expected to be added at the Sheboygan plant.
The Monterrey, Mexico-based group operates in 15 countries and supplies automotive customers with structural diecastings, powertrain components, and e-motor and battery housings for hybrid and battery-electric vehicles.
Reportedly, the first phase of the expansion will involve construction of new space to accommodate two new, 4,500-ton diecasting machines and related auxiliary equipment, a connector from the plant’s melting area to the new machines, along with a support area, electrical and plumbing systems, and a compressor room.
The second phase of construction will add more office space, and possibly more diecasting capacity. The third phase will include two more machines and tooling storage space.
The addition will include a new entry and exit point for trucks supplying materials and shipping finished diecastings.
The Sheboygan City Plan Commission approved the project in May, with work scheduled to start in late June.
